Dear colleagues and dear friends,
It is my pleasure and honor that I am able, as current president UMEMPS, to write a few introducing words on the new page of our society. UMEMPS pediatric society gathers around the Mediterranean Sea. And this is not mere coincidence. Mediterranean Sea connects us for millennia despite all the differences of the people who live in that area.
Predrag Matvejević in his grandiose work called Mediterranean Psalter teach us to love, characteristics and life of the Mediterranean. It is difficult to determine from where our sea offers and where stops. Old sailors were measured it from the coast of Asia to Hercules columns, from Euksin to the Ocean. The wise men believed that it goes back as long as the growth of olives, figs and palm trees. The boundaries of the Mediterranean are not only geographical. They are not marked, nor in time nor in space, are neither historical nor the state nor national, constantly describes and deletes, expands or narrows. Characteristics of the Mediterranean are present far from the coast. Mediterranean was the area of the mercantile ways for oil, wine, grain and spices, silk and amber, knowledge and science. From the East came the message, and the wise prophet, prayer and announcements. The Mediterranean was the origin of Europe. The Mediterranean is not only history and not just opinion. The sea surrounded by land and land surrounded by sea, sharing the sun and the same stars, the coast, bays, islands, cities and ports of interconnected trails and navigation that can meet and growth, the past and history, which is aggregated and shared, and is easy to believe that it is the exactly the center of the world. Events and life at sea and along the coast are in many ways similar to all parts of the Mediterranean.
We have the luck and privilege to live in this beautiful part of the world, but also the obligation to comply with our capabilities and possibilities of maintaining and enhance quality of life. I believe that UMEMPS activities can therefore contribute that significantly. This web site enhances the quality and efficiency of our activities and mutual communication and the need for its implementation will be particularly grateful to Professor Robert SACY and Professor Enver HASANOĞLU. Web site will help members better informed about the holding of congresses and professional meetings as well as about our next XXXII Congress UMEMPS of which will be held on 30th September 2009 to 03rd October 2009 in Croatia Hotel, Cavtat - Dubrovnik, Croatia, where we’ll spend the pleasant evening with a change our knowledge and experiences and thus contribute to better health care for children Mediterranean.

After all, UMEMPS web site has come in to effect and presented to the use of our valuable members and pediatricians.
UMEMPS, from the point of Healthy Children, Healthy World of IPA, cares the child health in our region and deals with all problems of the childhood period. We can be successful only with your contributions in our thought. As long as you inform us about the activities and news in your regions, this web site carries on its function more successfully.

Just send me the information’s by mail and it will very quickly be available on the site.
Also if you think we should add to the actual pages new pages or new ideas, we are opened to your suggestions.
I apologize for all the missing information’s, but I did not receive answers to my repeated requests.
